Kurt,
Ace and I want to thank you very much for training me to train him. You really kept me going when steadying got rough! You've helped us avoid
"holes" in our training and now he's reliable and I'm much more relaxed as a handler. We're having a great time and looking forward to summer camp.
P.S. Ace has one leg on his Master Hunter!

Kurt,
Here are the results [of our hunt]:
1. 72 pheasant
2. 2 wild quail.
3. Badger 100% hunting dead-about 15 to 20 times
including multiple heavily burrowed pheasant, one in
a ravine in mud and quail down in thick cover.
4. Marked and retrieved each shot bird.
5. Excited hunting scent, good quartering and he
followed wind patterns and hunting pattern
was adapted by Badger accordingly.
6. He hunted heavy cover including switch grass and
cut sorgum.
7. Stayed within easy range and rarely varied.
Thank you for all of your guidance and training!
Brian
P.S. We hunted with a multiple champion field
trialer for pointing dogs. When the birds were
really burrowed in he actually said "lets get Badger
over here"!

I can’t say enough great things about Kurt and Hup
Now Gundogs. First I am not a person who sends dogs out to be trained;
I have always trained my own dogs. I am an AKC hunt test judge, have
taken dogs to the senior level, and my Springer Scout made it to the
nationals twice with the National Bird Dog Challenge. Plus I am an avid
hunter spending all my vacation time hunting birds with my dogs. Last
year we had our first litter of field bred Springers and we kept a
puppy. Buddy turned out to be everything we dreamed of and more – he is
like a sponge and learned everything quickly both good and bad. He is
also a handful, a monster of a dog like Kurt likes to say and a
challenge like most smart dogs. Buddy enjoys testing me. Buddy will
also be our first field trial dog and I intend to get his master title
on him so when our winter hit sooner than expected our training program
ground to a halt. To make matters worse it was right during that
critical learning time in his first year. Buddy also started a bad
habit that had to be curtailed - with five feet of snow on the ground he
quickly abandoned his pattern and started running snowmobile trails at
full throttle clear out of sight! Before settling on a trainer I did
lots of research, and talked to all my lower 48 Springer connections and
Kurt’s name kept coming to the top of the list. After some long emails
and more long phone conversations I decided to send my boy away to
school. It was a tough decision, but now that he is back after four
months I can’t praise Kurt enough for what he has accomplished with this
dog in such a short period of time (Kurt wanted to keep him longer but I
wanted to train up here during our brief summer). Kurt was able to undo
the mistakes I had made with him, and with some work finally broke him
of racing down any trail he ran across in the field. Want I loved too
was how honest and accessible and easy Kurt is to talk to, I could call
anytime (except too late – I had to remember the time difference!) and
he would let me know how things were going. I was also amazed at his
ability to read a dog and his extensive knowledge of training. The
icing on the cake was when I went down and spent over a week with Kurt
and went out training each day. I learned so much and was in heaven
working all those wonderful dogs! Kurt was great with me too – he had
to be very patient with me as I am much tougher to train then Buddy. I
was amazed at his training techniques and how he keys on what the dog is
giving at that time and working with that can get the best out of each
dog. It was a very positive experience for both me and the dogs and I
would highly recommend Kurt as a trainer. I plan to keep working with
Kurt and may be sending Buddy back to field trial or for tune-ups.
Thanks Kurt, you have added a whole new positive aspect to our lives –
and I can’t be prouder of Buddy especially after I worked him this
weekend – what a dog! |

Since the year 2000 I have
been a very satisfied customer of Hupnow Gundogs. My latest project a
Yellow lab started
with Kurt when he was 6
months old and is now 2 years old (to the day as we write). He has shown
himself to be a
spectacular water dog with a
fantastic entry, soft mouth and impeccable manners in the blind. He is
also fully in
control and taking blind
retrieves to at least 100 yards. All this I attribute to the dedication,
knowledge, perseverance
and forward thinking training
at Hupnow. Kurt has consistently proved his ability to get into
the thoughts and mind
of the dogs he works with and
build a training regimen that is specific to the dog’s strengths and
weaknesses to
provide an all around
regiment that both Trainer and pupil enjoy and learn from. I have
had all my dogs train with
Kurt and will continue to do
so as long as I continue to acquire them.
Thanks Kurt |

Well, don't know if I could
really express how much I appreciate your skill as a true "Dog Man" but
I will give it a try:
I can't recommend Kurt
Caldwell and HupNow Gundog Camp enough. Kurt's expert skill with dogs
is a joy to watch.
From young puppies to
older seasoned dogs, I watched some amazing transformations in just a
few days and I
appreciated the patience
and kindness he showed in his method of training, not trying to rush the
process. Kurt is
also willing to share his
methods and to allow handlers to accompany their dogs to camp, teaching
you how to train
your own dog. I enjoyed
HupNow Gundog Camp so much that it will become a yearly trip for me and
my dogs. |

My
name is Larry Buggeln, and I train springer spaniel field trial dogs as
a hobby. I've have known Kurt for quite some
time now. We have trained
together a bunch of times. Kurt is a thinking dog trainer. He is very
positive and has been
very good at helping others train. The dogs come
first with Kurt.He has lots of ideas and helps with problem solving.
I
had a great time at summer dog camp, and recommend it to all very
highly. I'll see you at camp again this summer.
I(After 3rd Summer
Camp Experience:) I just wanted to drop you a
line to let you know how great summer camp was. All
the training tips plus the hands on handling tips
were great. It's much easier to learn when you see
your self make the mistakes. The video was great it
does not lie, yes I did that dumb stuff. The help
with my pup was great, he does like the water. Many
lessons learned. Count on me again next year.

Hey there Kurt Brian Merriman
here, I just got back from a duck hunt in Nebraska and I just had to
write you and
tell you that my dog Maddie
did a fabulous job in the water and in the field. You can tell that she
has well trained.
For a dog that is only a year
and a half old she looked like a veteran out there and I had the guides
asked me
where she was trained at,
because she did that well. So I thought I would just write you an e-mail
and tell you
about my experience with my
dog and how good she performed
Thank You

"Kurt accomplished much in an amazingly short period of time with my pup. I think the key was the great rapport he
built with him and the way he adapted his training methods to fit the pup's temperament. The training with Kurt was
the best money I ever spent on a dog, definitely worth the investment, as I had a pup ready to hunt and run puppy
stakes when I got him back, with a solid foundation for all-age competition. Equally important to me, my pup had the
same happy-go-lucky attitude when I got him back as when I sent him, ---obviously he had a great time at 'summer camp'!"
